A recent study by Microsoft, in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University, has raised concerns about the cognitive effects of excessive reliance on AI tools like Microsoft’s Copilot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The study underscores a key paradox of automation: by automating routine processes and delegating exception handling to humans, individuals lose opportunities to exercise judgment and enhance cognitive abilities. One user remarked, “I can really see that ChatGPT will make us more dumb as we will increasingly use AI without thinking and engaging our brain.”
