NASA’s SPHEREx and PUNCH missions, set to launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base, are experiencing another delay. The liftoff, originally scheduled for Saturday at 7:10 PM, was postponed due to ongoing vehicle checkouts.
Why the Delay?
SpaceX announced the hold via X, stating that teams need more time for system checks. While Sunday was listed as a backup date, officials later confirmed the launch will not take place that day either. Technical issues, weather conditions, and scheduling conflicts have all contributed to the delays.
Mission Overview
Once cleared, the Falcon 9 rocket will carry two important NASA missions:
🚀 SPHEREx – A space telescope designed to map the universe and search for key ingredients for life.
☀️ PUNCH – A set of four small satellites that will study the Sun’s corona and how it transitions into solar wind, which can impact Earth’s power grids and communication systems.
Launch & Landing Plan
- The Falcon 9 will lift off from Space Launch Complex-4.
- About 8 minutes later, the first-stage booster will return for a landing back at Vandenberg—this will be its third launch and landing.
